Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) is the oldest and largest university in Northern Cyprus. It was founded in 1979 as the High Technology Institute. Later, in 1986 the institute obtained the state status and changed its name to Eastern Mediterranean University.
Initially, the High-Tech Institute had a three-year training program, but after its transformation into a university, a standard four-year training program was approved and several faculties were opened, among them the faculties of engineering and technology, business and management, arts, design and architecture, education and training, faculty of medical and health, and also the school of computer science and IT.
